It's my birthday! And we're on our way to Alaska! 31 years young. Awesome.
As my Pops says, "Not a better thing to do on one’s birthday than to go on a long drive!”.
We had a few mild hiccups this morning. As to be expected. My handyman husband worked a good 20 hours yesterday. Between a 12 hour straight work day tying up all the loose ends and coming home and whipping out multiple projects, he made it happen.
And he made my birthday super special. With all the planning of the last month, I wasn't in my normal "My birthday's in (however many) days!" mode. He still remembered. During the past week he randomly surprised me with fun little gifts. The perfect distraction from the stress of getting ready to leave...for 5 weeks.

We're on the road. It feels good to be moving. As we prepared to leave this afternoon, a local family rode by our house in their bikes. The dad shouted, "Is this Alaska or bust?!" Darn straight. And we got our first family portrait of the trip.

We had a solid first days drive. Heading west. I'm looking forward to changing direction tomorrow. North to Alaska.
